Why choose this resort?

Zell am See remains one of the most spectacular settings in Austria. From glacial hues to mirrored lakes, you’ll be hard-pushed to discover a ski resort that competes for beauty and tranquillity. Groups have a great selection of villages to choose from with all providing good links to the slopes via a short coach journey. Offering year-round skiing, the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, which is included in the lift pass, guarantees good conditions in both early and late seasons. The lift pass also stretches across the Schmittenhöhe Mountain behind Zell am See and the Maiskogel in Kaprun.

On the slopes

Most groups on a school ski trip to Zell am See access the ski area via the Areitbahn Gondola in Schüttdorf where beginners will find the perfect place to start their lessons. Kaprun offers beginners the chance to build their confidence with gentle nursery slopes before moving onto the higher slopes of the Maiskogel or Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Schmittenhöhe’s wide, sweeping runs give intermediates plenty of challenges with 8km descents and a 1,200m vertical drop. The Schmittenhöhe provides advanced skiers with moguls, powder stashes and picturesque tree-flanked runs. Linked to the Schmittenhöhe, experienced skiers can enjoy the testing terrain of the Sonnkogel. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is a must for groups in this area catering for all abilities with fine snow-sure conditions and memorable views across Höhe Tauern National Park, the largest in Europe.
